For owners doing their own marketing, or working with an agency or a junior

You’ve got the doers. Who’s doing the thinking?

You pay an agency, or you’ve hired a keen marketing manager. But every real marketing decision still lands on your desk. I give your marketing the senior direction and the processes it’s missing, without a full-time hire.

What you hear, and what’s usually going on.

“I do our marketing myself, in the evenings.”

You’re quick at the doing, especially with AI. What’s missing is someone checking you’re doing the right things.

“Our agency sends a report every month.”

Plenty of numbers, none tied to enquiries. Nobody is asking what should change next month.

“Our marketing manager is keen, but needs direction.”

And you’re the one giving it, squeezed in between running the business.

“We need more leads.”

Often you need better ones, and to know which channel actually brings them in.

“We tried LinkedIn and it didn’t work.”

It probably was never measured, so nobody really knows.

“We paid for a strategy once. It’s still in a drawer.”

A plan nobody acts on is worth nothing. I stay involved until it’s working, and where there’s a gap I’ll work directly in your website, email, CRM and social tools myself.

Direction, and a system to work to.

I work alongside your agency or team, giving them direction and a system to work to. The system stays when I step back.

A plan

A simple quarterly plan with clear priorities, so nobody guesses what matters this month.

Proper briefs

Clear briefs and targets for your agency, judged on enquiries rather than activity.

Reporting that means something

One page a month on where enquiries came from and what we’ll change.

Clear sign-off

Agreed rules on who decides what, so you only see what really needs you.

A monthly rhythm

A monthly review with your agency or marketer, run by me.

Two ways to work together.

Part-time head of marketing

For firms with an agency or a junior

I set the direction, put the processes in place and run the monthly review. Where there’s a gap, I do the hands-on work too. This is my Fractional Marketing Leadership service.

Direction check

For owners doing their own marketing

We start with the diagnostic and agree a simple plan, then meet monthly to check you’re focusing on the right things. You keep doing the work.

Not sure which fits? Book a free 20-minute call and we’ll work it out.

Senior judgement and real processes, without a full-time hire.

FAQ

Mostly, yes. Smaller UK firms use the titles loosely. Either way it means a senior marketer who sets the direction and the processes for part of the month, without a full-time salary.
Look at what their report ties to enquiries. If it lists clicks, impressions and posts but can’t say where last month’s enquiries came from or what will change next month, nobody is judging the work on results. A clear brief with targets based on enquiries fixes most of that.
Give them a short quarterly plan, a clear brief for each piece of work, and agreed rules on what they can sign off alone. Then review the work once a month, so the questions stop landing on your desk every day. That’s the system I put in place, and it stays when I step back.
Not always. If you’re happy doing the work yourself, the Direction check is lighter: we agree a simple plan from the diagnostic, then meet monthly to check you’re focusing on the right things.
